Work Journal: May 2024

If I had to assign one word to summarize my work life in May it would be ebbs-and-flows. I realize that’s three words, but the phrase summarizes the nature of my work beautifully. The beginning of the month started pretty slowly with evergreen articles trickling in. My work with the news team remained consistent.

Real talk: I feel like I have so much more to offer than my role allows. So, I’ve had some candid conversations with my direct and skip-level managers about learning more about other areas of the business and taking on more responsibility. While there’s nothing set in stone, I’m laying the foundation for new challenges in the future.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my relationship with work lately. Or, more specifically, how I use productivity to measure my worth as a person (not just an employee). It feels gross to admit it out loud, but it’s my truth, and I’m working to reframe my approach to work and productivity.

Here are my wins this month:

  • Completing the mandatory workplace harassment training (3.5 weeks before the deadline) 💁🏼‍♀️

  • SEO certification after completing SEO-101 training with SemRush
